A native of South Korea, Soyoung Yoon received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance from Hanyang University, where she was a student of Chung Yoon Park. She came to the U.S. in 2000 to continue her studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she received her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in 2003 as a student of Anton Nel. In 2008, she got her Artist Diploma degree in the College –Conservatory of Music, the University of Cincinnati under Frank Weinstock.
Dr. Yoon is the recipient of top prizes in several international competitions including the Texas Young Artist Competition, the UTSO Concerto Competition, the Russian International Piano Competition, the CCM Concerto Competition, Artist International, International Chamber Music Competition, Iowa Piano Competition, Missouri Southern Competition, Hankook Newspaper Competition, the Korea Piano Associationa Competition, and etc.
She has performed extensively as recitalist and collaborative artist in her native country including performances at the National art Center, Seoul Arts Center, Keumho Art Center, and Sejong Art Center, and as a guest artist in the U.S. include Carnegie Hall, and Texas A & M University, Indiana University, Bradley University, the University of Northern Colorado, Texas State University, the University of San Antonio, Texas Piano Festival and Steinway Society. She held the staff accompanist position of Kingsville International Competition, Texas Young Artist Competition, and Yeul Vocal Compeititon. Dr. Yoon performed lots of orchestras of UT Orchestra, Nova Vista Symphony, CCM Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyoungki Philharmonic Orchestra, Sungnam City Philharmonic Orchestra, Kangrung City Philharmonic Orchestra, Guri City Orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Rumania Bacau Orchestra, Moldova National Orchestra, Rumania Timishuara Orchestra.
She attended the Aspen Music Festival on full scholarship. She has participated in the master classes of Herbert Stessin, Leon Fleisher, Margo Garrett, Gilbert Kalish, James Tocco, Guarneri String Quartet, Amerson Quartet, Miro String Quartet, and Midori.
She is currently teaching at Hanyang University and working as an Artist Director of We Soloists in Korea.
